March 15, 2011. Co-sponsored by the U.S. Consulate General Frankfurt, Campus Verlag, the German National Library and the German-British Society, historian, archaeologist, and author Ian Morris gave an inspiring as well as entertaining lecture on "Why the West Rules - For Now" at the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek in Frankfurt. Almost 250 guests listened to Morris, Professor in Classics and Professor in History at Stanford University, analyze the factors having led to a temporary and comparatively brief period of dominance of the West to be followed by dominance of the East at around the turn of the next century. Morris vividly elaborated upon the role of geography, particularly on how geography impacted on social and scientific progress which in turn changed the role of geography. Morris based his fascinating presentation on his newest book which had just been published in German by Campus Verlag. It had received much praise around the world and has been voted a "Top 10 of 2010" by both The New York Times and The Economist.
