Passport Information

For the most current information on passports, please consult the of the State Department's Bureau of Consular Affairs web site, including forms, fees and required documentation.  Passports may be obtained for the first time, replaced when lost, stolen or damaged, or renewed at the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Malta.  An appointment is generally required to submit an application of bonafide emergencies please contact us directly.

In almost all cases, passports are no longer produced overseas, but at a central processing point in the United States.  Please allow at least ten working days after application is approved before the passport will be ready to pick up at the Embassy to avoid unnecessary complications in your travel plans.

Important Note

All applications for passports by American citizens living in Malta, including renewals, must be submitted to the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Malta. Applications from American citizens living abroad, mailed directly to the United States will not be processed.

You or your parent or guardian should fill out a (DS-11)

If you are renewing a passport that

  •  Is undamaged and can be submitted with your application and,
  •  was issued when you were age 16 or older and,
  •  was issued within the last 15 years and,
  •  was issued in your current name or you can legally document your name change.
