Passports

Note: Effective February 1, 2008, passport applicants who are U.S. citizen minors under the age of 16 must appear personally with their parents and provide proof of identity, proof of citizenship and proof of relationship.

All Americans residing in Morocco should hold valid U.S. passports. No single document is more important to an American citizen residing overseas. We urge you not to let your passport expire nor delay in making application for renewal of a passport. We strongly encourage you to apply in advance of your anticipated travel dates.

Lost/stolen passports can be usually replaced the same day when an applicant comes to the U.S. Consulate General to report the loss, provided the case is a bona fide emergency and telecommunications with Washington are up and running.  In order to process an application for a replacement passport, regular or emergency, you will need to obtain a declaration de perte (declaration of loss) from the police station in the city where the loss occured.

Routine requests for the renewal of a passport are made at the U.S. Consulate General, but the passports are issued in the U.S.  Receiving a passport takes approximately 10 days.  Passport application forms are available at
http://www.travel.state.gov/passport/forms/forms_847.html.

All applicants must appear in person at the American Citizen Services (ACS) unit at the U.S. Consulate General and provide the following:

  • Please note that, for renewals for minors, parents should provide photos of their children at each year of age to facilitate the consular officer's identification of the child from infancy. The consular officer may request this information of older applicants as well.
  • Evidence of identity and citizenship (i.e., copy of previous passport, U.S. birth certificate or naturalization certificate). If you are bringing your previous expired or unexpired passport, please also make a copy for your application.
  • One recent full front face photograph (2x2 inches or 5x5 cm against a light background).
  • A completed application form (available at the ACS unit or at http://www.travel.state.gov/passport/forms/forms_847.html).
  • Fees: All fees may be paid in U.S. dollars (via cash or credit card) or Moroccan Dirham equivalent (cash only).

Renewals for adults eligible to use DS-82: USD $110
    First-time and lost/stolen passports for adults: $135  Minors under 16: USD $105
    Extra pages: $82
  • Applicants who are U.S. citizen minors under the age of 16 must appear personally with both of their parents to establish identity, proof of citizenship and proof of relationship (a birth certificate or adoption papers). For parental application permission, both parents must appear together and sign the application.
  • If one parent is unable to appear, they may sign a DS-3053 form or other notarized statement giving permission to the other parent to apply for the passport.  The DS-3053 can be notarized by a consular officer for no fee.
  • Please make a copy of the expired passport and birth certificate to include with your application.
  • Per the U.S. Department of State's Media Note on September 26, 2005, amendments to U.S. passports are only allowed in rare circumstances.
