Notarial Services

The Embassy can notarize documents during normal U.S. Citizen Service hours.  To schedule an appointment, please visit our online appointment website, or call 5049-5300.  As of July 13, 2010 notarial fees are $50.00.  Each time the consular seal is applied, a $50.00 fee is incurred.

Tax Information

Tax booklets are no longer offered by the Embassy, as information is now readily available on the Internal Revenue Service website.  The IRS has also established a new site specifically for U.S. citizens residing abroad.  Please click here for the IRS’s site for U.S. citizens overseas

The Consular Section can provide Social Security Number applications and Selective Service registration.

Emergency Services

The Consular Section of U.S. Embassy Ouagadougou can provide a number of services to U.S. citizens who find themselves in emergency situations.

We can assist American citizens who find themselves temporarily destitute by contacting family, friends, or business associates to raise private funds and transmit these to Burkina Faso.  We can assist Americans who become physically or mentally ill while traveling in finding medical facilities or arranging emergency travel.

Our consular officers can assist American parents in cases of international child abduction and custody disputes.

While we cannot get Americans released from jail, when we are informed of the arrest of an American citizen, we will insist on prompt access, provide a list of attorneys, provide information on the local legal system, offer to contact family or friends, visit on a regular basis, protest mistreatment and, if necessary, provide dietary supplements.

If an American passes away in Burkina Faso, we stand ready to assist the family in whatever way we can. For specific information on the disposition of remains in Burkina Faso, check the remain page.
