Stephanie T. Williams, Deputy Chief of Mission

Stephanie T. Williams is the Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Amman, Jordan.  She was Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in the Kingdom of Bahrain from May 2010 until January 2013.  Prior to that assignment she served as Director of Maghreb Affairs in the State Department’s Near Eastern Bureau.  Ms. Williams also served in NEA as Deputy Director of Egypt and Levant Affairs from 2005-2007 and as the Jordan Desk Officer from 2003-2005.  Her other overseas assignments include Pakistan, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates.  Ms. Williams studied Arabic at the Foreign Service Institute in Tunis and at the University of Bahrain.  She joined the Foreign Service in 1994 after working in the private sector in Bahrain and for a non-governmental organization in Washington, D.C.

Ms. Williams holds a bachelor’s degree in Government Relations and a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Maryland.  She holds a master’s degree in Arab Studies from Georgetown University and a master’s degree in National Security Studies from the National War College.  She is married to fellow Foreign Service Officer Tom Williams, and they have two children.
