Passports

U.S. citizens can renew expiring or expired passports, have additional pages added to passports, and replace lost or stolen passports at the Consular Office. The validity of United States passports can no longer be extended. If your passport has expired, you must get a new one.

American Citizens should make appointments for passport services online at the Embassy’s ACS Online Appointment System.  The Consular Office welcomes applicants Monday-Friday, between 2:00 and 3:30 p.m. We try to assist all customers, but cannot guarantee service to those who fail to make an appointment. American Citizens with emergency needs are not required to make an appointment. All passport services should be submitted in person. Though in some countries certain passport services can be provided via the U.S. Embassy by mail – for instance, some passport renewal applications – the Consular Office at the U.S. Embassy in Rangoon advises all American citizens in Burma that, considering the unreliability of Burma’s postal system, all passport services should be conducted at the Consular Office and in person. If applicants are unable to come to the Consular Office, applicants may have someone acting on their behalf renew or have pages added to their passport for them. This person would need a signed letter stating he is authorized to act on the applicant’s behalf and the necessary form must be signed by the applicant.

The Consular Office accepts U.S. dollars and Burmese Foreign Exchange Certificates (FEC). Credit cards and other currencies are not accepted.

Please find comprehensive guidance on passport applications at the Department of State’s website.
