  • U.S. Human Rights Advocate and Police Lieutenant visit Latvia to Focus on Domestic Violence Police Response and Legislation

    The experts arrived in Latvia to lead seminars and share their legal and practical experience with Latvian police officers, law enforcement officials, representatives from the Ministry of Justice, and NGO leaders, on ways to protect victims of domestic violence through an informed and proactive police response and enhanced legislation.  

  • U.S. Ambassador Visited Valmiera

    Ambassador Mark Pekala made an official visit to Valmiera. During the visit he met with the Mayor of Valmiera, Inesis Boķis, and City Council officials. The Ambassador also toured the company Valmieras Stikla Šķiedra and the brewery Valmiermuižas alus. In addition, Ambassador Pekala had lunch with U.S. exchange program alumni and young people from the Vidzeme region.  

  • U.S. Embassy Hosted Awards Ceremony for Latvia’s Trafficking in Persons Heroes

    Ambassador Pekala gave opening remarks highlighting the Latvians who have made a significant contribution in the fight against modern slavery. During the event there was also a screening of the film “Journey to Freedom,” released by Fair Trade Productions and funded through a grant by the U.S. Department of State. 

  • U.S. Ambassador Visited Jelgava

    During the visit he had meetings with Jelgava’s Mayor, Andris Rāviņš, and City Council officials. The Ambassador also toured the company UAV Factory, which has an American subsidiary and manufactures remotely piloted aircraft, and visited the historic cultural landmark, the Holy Trinity Church Tower. Ambassador Pekala concluded his trip at the Social Care Center for Children.
