Continuous School Improvement

The leadership and faculty of staff are committed to providing the best and most appropriate education possible for our students. For this reason, we have a mission, a vision, goals, and guiding principles. By continuously applying these, we are committed to never-ending self improvement. As educators, we know that our students deserve nothing less.

GOALS:
M.C. Perry High School has two SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, time-specific) Goal Statements; each goal has specific interventions that faculty at Perry are using to help students reach the goal and improve their reading and writing.  Our SMART Goals and interventions are:
• By June 2015, all students will increase performance on academic writing skills using instructional interventions implemented in all curricular areas as measured by the Terra Nova, and local assessments.  The targeted writing skills will include voice, sentence fluency, convention, ideas, organization, word choice, and presentation (6+1 traits of writing).
• The intervention for writing in all departments is the 6 Traits of writing.
• By June 2015, all students will increase performance on targeted reading comprehension skills using instructional interventions implemented in all curricular areas as measured by the TN 3 reading assessments.  The targeted skills are applying for a variety of strategies to improve reading comprehension, analysis, and critical thinking; developing an expanded reading vocabulary to improve reading and writing skills; and engaging in self-initiated reading for a variety of purposes from a wide range of sources.

•The interventions for reading vary from department to department.  Science and Social Studies are utilizing SQ3R (Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review)

•English Language Arts and Math are utilizing Marking the Text, a specific strategy which helps students learn to annotate and focus as they read.

•Fine and Applied Arts is utilizing Pausing to Connect, a strategy which helps students reflect on their reading and make connections to their prior knowledge.
