Student Activities

All students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities whether they be athletic, academic or social in nature. These activities help to shape students and prepare them for success after high school as part of a well-rounded education. Our School offers many activities for students to choose from.

Club

Description

Art Club

If you have above average interest or ability in Art, we want you in Art Club!  We do more in-depth types of projects that go beyond what we are able to do in Art class.  Our membership is limited to 15 students. 
*Starts on Oct. 1st.

Asian–Pacific Club 

Diversity celebration in our school, thru cultural dances,-Filipino bamboo dance, Chinese dragon dance, fashion show of different cultures, etc. Students of all nationality welcome to join. *Starts Jan. 28-May 6, 2013.*

Homework Club

Students will have the opportunity to work on their assignments with the assistance of Mr. Laroche before they head home.
*Starts on September 17. 

Roots & Shoots

Roots & Shoots is a fun-filled club started world-wide by Dr. Jane Goodall (a primatologist who lived with chimpanzees and studied their behavior) where students can learn about and take action on issues affecting the environment, animals and people, sometimes by linking with other Roots & Shoots clubs around the world. Students will have many chances to show that they CAN make a difference in their communities and our world, regardless of their ages.  Limited to 25 (twenty-five) 3rd, 4th & 5th graders.* Starts Oct. 1st.

Must have tennis shoes to participate.  Be prepared to run, play and have a good time.  
15 students Max- First come first in with completed application.

**Rope Speed and Stack Club (2nd Semester) will start Monday, January 14th 1400hrs-1500hrs in the gym.

Club 2-1-5  

10 week Fitness Program for kids with 30 minutes of nutrition, 30 min lifestyle changes and an hour of Physical activity, brought to you in cooperation with our community instructors from HAWC, Youth Center, Fitness Gym and more. *Starts Jan 16-Mar 20, 2013

Chorus

 

A singing club for those who love to sing.  All singers should have a binder or 3-prong folder.  We will prepare popular, folk, secular, and sacred music for public performance. We usually perform a concert in December and May and two small performances at the YCC. *Starts Sept. 26.*

Puzzles and Games    

Students work on cooperation and good sportsmanship while playing games and puzzles together.  Limited to 20 students.

Soroban Club

Students will learn how to use a Japanese abacus to solve math problems.
Selected students in this club will participate in the Kanto Plain Soroban Contest at the New Sanno Hotel in May 2013.  Club is limited to 20 students.

CSI Jr.

Our club will work to support the CSI goals of YWES. Student Council format.  All members will be voted in by November 6. Students will actively engage in planning and implementing activities for our school and community outreach programs. COMMUNITY MISSION:  I will pursue excellence.  I am responsible for my actions.  I am a lifelong learner.  Success begins with ME!

Fun Friday for ESL Folks

 

Fun Friday is a game-playing, fun-filled club where ESL students can communicate with each other in English in an informal atmosphere while relaxed and having fun.  Learning how to cooperate, share, and respect each other are important aspects of students being successful, so these behaviors will be positively reinforced during this club. This club is limited to 25 ESL students at YWES. *Starts Oct. 5*
