August, 2012 - Presentation on the 2012 US Presidential Election process
Election fever struck the Nelson Library Friday afternoon as Acting Chargé d’Affaires Dana Deree of the US Embassy Apia gave a fascinating presentation on the 2012 US Presidential Election process. Students from St. Mary’s Primary, Chanel College, and members of the public filled the American Corner, located upstairs at the library, to learn about the upcoming race between Democratic Party nominee and incumbent, Barack Obama, and Republican Party candidate and former Massachusetts Governor, Mitt Romney. read more »

July, 2012 - United States Research Vessel Studying Gigantic 1000’ Underwater Waves
The RV Roger Revelle, a Scripps Institute of Oceanography research vessel was in Samoa on the week of July 16 to conduct U.S. Government funded research on ocean currents, climactic changes and marine biology. With a team of oceanographers, scientists and engineers onboard, the Roger Revelle provides a sophisticated research platform that will allow scientists to get a better understanding of the water currents in the Samoan Passage. read more »

July, 2012 - Embassy Apia celebrates Fourth of July with Samoa
The United States Embassy in Apia celebrated Fourth of July or the US Independence Day on July 6 this year at the Embassy Residence, Vailima. The picnic reception was hosted by Chargé d’Affaires Chad Berbert and was well attended by Samoan Government officials and private business representatives. read more »

June, 2012 - Samoa - 50 year anniversary of independence
On June 1st this year, Samoa celebrated its 50 year anniversary of independence from New Zealand rule. This proud Pacific Island nation had week-long festivities from May 31st to June 5. The highlights of this year’s festivities included a UB40 Concert at Apia Park, Step Afrika performed at different locations around the country, and a US Navy 7th fleet Marching Band. read more »

April, 2012 - J. William Fulbright Foreign Student Scholarship Announcement.
The United States Embassy in Apia announced today that resident nationals of Samoa are now eligible to apply for the J. William Fulbright Foreign Student Scholarship program. The Fulbright Foreign Student Program brings citizens of other countries to the United States for study at U.S. universities or other appropriate institutions and offers program participants insight into U.S. society and values. view full details »

From U.S. Ambassador Huebner's blog: Another day Dr McWaine and I drove out to visit the set of the hit television series Survivor, which will be filming in Samoa for approximately five months. Survivor is serious — and very positive — business. The producers employ a few hundred people, many of whom are Samoans rather than imported foreigners. The producers train local workers, and they use local suppliers, craftsmen, contractors, and vendors. read entire post »

September 2011: East-West Center - United States – South Pacific Scholarship Program
The East-West Center has released the applications for United States – South Pacific Scholarship Program. These scholarships are available only to citizens of South Pacific countries, and range from undergraduate to masters level degrees. The recipient of the scholarship will receive money for: tuition, room and board, airfare and several other costs incurred while studying in the United States. The program will include a summer internship in Washington, D.C. as well as a 4 to 5 week service project in the applicant’s home country. Celebrations in Samoa of Peace Corps 50th Anniversary worldwide and 44years in Samoa Launched
The patron of celebrations Her Highness Masiofo Filifilia, U.S. Embassy Apia Chargé d’Affaires and Peace Corps Director Dale Withington launched story, picture and photo competition was announced for stories of PC work in Samoa and Samoans experiences in the past four decades-- deadline on May 20. The winning pieces will be collated in a PC Samoa booklet to be launched at the festivities of the Fourth of July. This year’s Embassy Fourth of July will highlight PC contribution in the world and Samoa.

STATEMENT BY SECRETARY CLINTON - On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of the Independent State of Samoa on the 48th anniversary of your nation’s independence on June 1. I also offer warm wishes to Samoans in the United States and around the world. As Pacific neighbors, the United States and Samoa enjoy a warm partnership based on mutual respect and mutual interest. We look forward to another year marked by cooperation on combating climate change, spurring economic development, and promoting deeper cultural ties. We wish Samoa continued progress toward recovery from last year’s devastating tsunami, and pledge sustained support from the people and government of the United States.
