Recognition to Argentine Prosecutor for his Contribution to the Fight against Trafficking in Persons

The Head of the Specialized Office for Investigation of Kidnapping and Trafficking in Persons (UFASE), Marcelo Colombo, was recognized by the Department of State for his commitment to the fight against trafficking in persons.

 Dr. Colombo and nine other people from all over the world were recognized in an award ceremony that coincided with the release of the 2012 Trafficking in Persons Report. The ceremony, presided over by Secretary of State Clinton, took place this morning in Washington, D.C.. The TIP Heroes Award is given each year by the Department of State to recognize those who have dedicated their lives to combating human trafficking around the world.  

Ambassador Vilma Martinez met with Dr. Colombo before his departure to the United States to share ideas about the importance of governments working together with non-government actors to strengthen the ability to respond to the scourge of human trafficking.

The Government of the United States gave this award to recognize consistent efforts by Dr. Marcelo Colombo and his team at UFASE to raise awareness and provide training to combat human trafficking as well as their efforts to prosecute those guilty of human trafficking.
