Embassy Sections

Management

The Management Section provides a full range of administrative support services to all offices of the mission. It provides daily support to Mission employees by maintaining program operations and working with the Department on post's long-term planning: buildings, workforce structure, communications systems, and resources, in addition to negotiating with the host government on reciprocity and labor issues relevant to Embassy operations. The Management Officer ensures that foreign policy operations and services to the public are efficient, effective, and secure.

Consular Sections

The Consular Section responds to requests for assistance by American citizens in the event of arrest, destitution, illness or death. The Consular Section issues passports to American citizens overseas, registers births and deaths of American citizens, and provides advice concerning the acquisition and loss of nationality. Consular officers perform notarial services, maintain information on voting registration, and can provide general information on Social Security and IRS matters.

The Consular Section is also responsible for issuing immigrant and nonimmigrant visas to applicants who wish to temporarily visit or immigrate to the US and who qualify under US immigration law.

Public Diplomacy Office

The mission of the Public Diplomacy Office, known also as the American Cultural Center, is to promote understanding of U.S. political, economic and social issues, explaining to Romanian audiences both the current Administration’s foreign policy agenda and the complexities of U.S. society and culture. The Counselor for Public Diplomacy leads the Public Diplomacy Office.

Foreign Agricultural Service

The Foreign Agricultural Service as part of the U.S. Embassy in Romania represents the interests of the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Romania. The regional office is based in Sofia, Bulgaria and covers Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia and Kosovo. The Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) Bucharest works for improving access of U.S. products on the Romanian market.

Economic

The Economic Section promotes United States policies and enhances the United States' relationship with Romania in economic, environmental and scientific affairs.

Political

The Political Section analyzes and reports on political matters that affect U.S. interests. It conveys U.S. Government views on political issues to foreign officials, negotiates agreements, and maintains close contact with political and labor leaders, third country diplomats, and others of influence.

Human Resources

The Human Resource Office directs, manages and provides comprehensive human resource programs such as compensation, recruitment, training, orientation, career development, mentoring, benefits, separation, performance evaluation, etc., by emphasizing customer service and responsiveness.

Regional Security Office

The Bureau of Diplomatic Security protect U.S. personnel and missions overseas, advising U.S. ambassadors on all security matters and providing an effective security program against terrorist and criminal threats at U.S. diplomatic facilities.

Office of Defense Cooperation

The Office of Defense Cooperation Romania is responsible to the Commander, United States European Command, the United States Ambassador to Romania and the Defense Security Cooperation Agency for the execution of security cooperation programs including International Military Education and Training, Foreign Military Financing/Foreign Military Sales, State Partnership Program, George C. Marshall Center, military to military engagements and humanitarian assistance programs. In addition, the ODC Romania coordinates training, exercises, operations and bilateral defense agreements.

Each Legal Attache (Legat) represents the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and protects the interests of the Bureau. The FBI responds to domestic and extraterritorial needs as effectively as possible. This is accomplished through partnerships and cooperation with Romanian and Moldovan law enforcement agencies on every level.
