All visa applicants who require a personal interview at the embassy will need to book an appointment though our online booking system. If the booking system is full, please see our information on emergency appointments at the bottom of this page.

To book an appointment, please:

1. Fill in the DS-160 visa form online.
2. Print out the confirmation page, and note down the number below the bar code. You will be asked for this number when you schedule your appointment.
3. Click on the link below, and provide your bar code number to schedule an appointment for an interview.

Applicants will receive a confirmation of their appointment immediately after booking it in our online system. You will not receive this information by e-mail.

Emergency Appointments

If appointments are not immediately available, the Consular Section may be able to expedite interviews for Norwegian residents who apply for certain categories of visa applicants, on a space-available basis.

These categories are:

• students (F or M visas)
• exchange program participants (J visas)
• work petition beneficiaries (H, L, O, P, or Q visas) who need to report to a U.S. educational institution or employer by a certain date, and
• medical emergencies

In order to request an emergency appointment, you will first need to follow the instructions above for booking a regular appointment.   

Then, please send an e-mail to osloappt@state.gov including:

If you meet the requirements for an emergency appointment, we will try to accommodate you with an appointment before your intended date of travel.  

Please Note: A lack of planning to obtain the proper visa in advance does not constitute an emergency. The risk of missing a booked flight or other travel arrangements is not a sufficient reason for an emergency appointment.

If you do not meet the above criteria you will need to keep your original regular appointment slot, or look for cancellations at a later time.
