DNA Procedures

DNA Procedures for American Citizen Services applicants

  1. You select and contact a laboratory that is accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB). You make all necessary arrangements for conducting the test, including payment directly to the laboratory.
  2. You instruct the lab to send the test kit directly to the American Citizen Services (ACS) section at:
    Embajada de los Estados Unidos
    Calle F con Calle Suapure
    Colinas de Valle Arriba
    Caracas 1080, Venezuela
  3. ACS will contact you when the kit arrives, and set up an appointment date for DNA collection.  Everyone being tested must bring their current, valid passport to the appointment.  You are responsible for paying for the collection.  The lab technician who takes your collection can answer your questions about paying for the procedure.  You do not need to give anyone at the Embassy any money for the collection.
  4. An Embassy staff person will confirm your identity before the collection, then witness the bucal swab collection.
  5. The Embassy will mail the specimen to the lab that you previously identified.
  6. The Embassy will contact you when the results come in, and advise you of any further necessary steps to take.
  7. If you have any questions at any point in the process, you may call American Citizen Services at 212-975-6411.
