Absentee Voting in U.S. Elections

All U. S. citizens are encouraged to exercise their right to vote. 

The Federal Voting Assistance Program website www.fvap.gov offers valuable absentee voting information, including registration and ballot requests, to U.S. citizens and Armed Forces service members living outside the United States. 

All states allow the option of receiving your ballot “by E-Mail/Online” – that is the recommended method to receive your ballot because it is the best way to ensure it arrives, on time, for your vote to be counted.  

U.S. citizens in Sudan can mail their election materials (whether the Federal Postcard Application or the Back-up Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot), but NOT vote, through the U.S. Embassy in Khartoum.  Bring your completed ballot or application to the Consular entrance and let the guards know why you are here.  Submit election materials at the American Citizen Services window for mailing. 

Please keep in mind that Embassy mail is sent to the U.S. only once per week (on Tuesdays) and that ballots can take three or four weeks to arrive at the processing center in Virginia where they will be postmarked. Ballots not postmarked by the state deadline will not be counted.
