A
Absentee Ballot
A ballot submitted by an American citizen while not on American territory

Administration
The act or process of administering, especially the management of a government or large institution.  The executive branch of a government.

Ambassador
A diplomatic official of the highest rank appointed and accredited as representative in residence by one government or sovereign to another, usually for a specific length of time.

Amendment
A correction or alteration, as in a manuscript.  The process of formally altering or adding to a document or record.

B
Bilateral
Affecting or undertaken by two sides equally; binding on both parties.

Bill
A draft of a proposed law presented for approval to a legislative body.

Biometric
The statistical study of biological phenomena

Bureau
A government department or a subdivision of a department

Former President of the United State of America.

Cheney, Richard B
Former Vice President of the United States of America.

Classified
To designate (a document, for example) as confidential, secret or top secret.

Congress
The national legislative body of the United States, consisting of the Senate and the House of Representatives

Consular
A person who works in the consulate

Consulate
The branch of the Embassy that works with foreigners to obtain their visas to the United States

DAO
Defense Attaché Office

DCM
Deputy Chief of Mission.  The DCM in Uganda is Andrew G. Chritton

Declassified
To remove official security classification from.

Delegation
A person or group of persons officially elected or appointed to represent another or others.

Democrat
An advocate or democracy.  A member of the Democratic Party.

Diplomat
One, such as an ambassador, who has been appointed to represent a government in its relations with other governments.

DPAO
Deputy Public Affairs Officer

Embassy
A building containing the offices of an ambassador and staff.

FBI
Federal Bureau of Investigation.  See official website

Foreign Commercial Service

Government
Administration that handles a country

GSO
General Services Office

H
Homeland Security (U.S. Department)
An independent agency established by and accountable to the President of the United States of America.  It develops and implements a national strategy to make the United States safe from terrorist threats or attacks.  See official website

House of Representatives
The lower house of the U.S. Congress and most state legislatures.  See official website

I
Immigrant
A person who leaves one country to settle permanently in another

Immigration
To enter and settle in a country or region to which one is not native

IRC
Information Resource Center.  U.S. Embassy section that distributes useful information for researchers, students, professionals, institutions, non-government organizations, etc.

Marine
A member of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Multinational
Having operations, subsidiaries, or investments in more than two countries

Public Affairs Officer

Public Affairs Section

Republican
One who favors a republic as the best form of government.  A member of the Republican Party of the United States.

RSO
Regional Security Officer

Secretary of State
The person under the president who works to maintain good relations with other countries and leaders.  The current U.S. Secretary of State is Condoleezza Rice.  Link to the U.S. Department of State

Terrorism
The unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or government, often for ideological or political reasons.

Visa
Official authorizations appended to a passport, permitting entry into and travel within a particular country or region.  Link to the U.S. Visa Information.

Waiver
Intentional relinquishment of a right, claim or privilege
