The U.S. Embassy, Astana, Kazakhstan

Welcome to the U.S. Embassy to Kazakhstan, located in Astana. Astana was officially named the new capital in December 1997 and foreign missions are gradually relocating to Astana year by year.

The embassy includes sections dealing with political/economic issues, consular affairs, administration, and security. Also represented are the Defense Attache Office, the Foreign Commercial Service, Public Affairs, Peace Corps and a regional U.S. Agency for International Development office which covers all of Central Asia.

The United States was the first country to recognize Kazakhstan when it declared its independence in December 1991 after the fall of the Soviet Union. The U.S. Embassy in Kazakhstan was established in 1992 and moved to its current location — Ak Bulak 4, Str. 23-22, building #3, Astana 010010, Kazakhstan — in 2006.

The U.S. Embassy works with the Kazakhstani government on a wide range of bilateral and regional issues including, but not limited to, trade, commerce, democracy, humanitarian assistance, defense and the environment. The U.S. Embassy also provides services for American citizens in Kazakhstan via the American Citizen Services branch of the consular section and American businesses receive support from the Foreign Commercial Service.
