Welcome

The Radiation Transport Group is part of the Reactor and Nuclear Systems Division (RNSD) within the Nuclear Science and Engineering Directorate (NSED) of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). Radiation Transport is responsible for the development and use of nuclear analysis methods for criticality safety and radiation protection and shielding applications.

Radiation Transport staff perform basic and applied R&D, using their analysis experience and expertise to provide problem-solving tools, technical solutions, and policy advice to the Department of Energy and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, as well as other government and private organizations.

Vision & Goals

Through the specific goals described below, contribute to the safe, efficient, and cost-effective use of nuclear technologies:

  • Develop accurate, reliable, innovative, and easy-to-use computational tools for criticality safety and radiation shielding analyses that advance the state-of-the-art.
  • Produce high-quality technical analyses and documentation that address sponsor needs and meet or exceed sponsor expectations.
  • Provide reliable and insightful policy advice on matters related to nuclear safety regulations and practices.
