Overview

The Political and Economic Section reports and analyzes developments in Hungary of direct relevance to the United States. The staff of the Political Section maintain official contact with government ministries, political parties, and other groups interested in public policy. They assess the degree of support for U.S. policies, advocate policy consistent with U.S. interests and seek to maximize cooperation with the Government of Hungary in areas of mutual concern.

The Political and Economic Section reports on and strives to promote a democratic, market-oriented Hungary, regional stability, prosperity, improved standards of living, respect for human rights, and achieving better Hungarian integration with western institutions, including the WTO, OECD, NATO and the EU. The section supports Hungary's transition to a free-market economy, and promotes U.S. investment and export opportunities.

Investment Climate Statement

The annual Investment Climate Statement provides information about the investment regime to potential U.S. investors in Hungary in order to help them assess business risks. It is also part of the U.S. government's Country Commercial Guide (available through the Department of Commerce), which is designed to assist U.S. companies interested in doing business in Hungary.
