Purpose
The TIPS Remote Sensing Team includes members from the States and OSM offices. The team works together to promote the use of remote sensing technology to implement the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act of 1977 (SMCRA). Team members have many years of experience in coal mining regulatory programmatic operations and in the use of remote sensing imagery to support SMCRA programs among the States, Tribes, and OSM offices. Team members review new developments in remote sensing technology, evaluate their application to coal mining regulatory programs, and help ensure that TIPS is able to offer the latest technology for use by TIPS customers.
