Day
An annual water quality monitoring event designed to increase
information and public awareness about water quality issues affecting
sanctuary watersheds.
First
Flush
An annual volunteer monitoring event occurring during the first
storm of the season to characterize first flush storm water runoff
flowing into the sanctuary.
The
Great Annual Fish Count
Volunteer divers and snorkelers are trained to identify
and document fish diversity and population trends in marine sanctuaries.
Coastal
Cleanup Day
An annual event in which volunteers collect trash and
debris from our state’s shoreline and coastal
areas.

TeamOCEAN
Kayaker Program
Volunteers learn the basics of kayaking and are trained
as naturalists to educate other kayakers about the sanctuary and
promote respectful wildlife viewing.
BeachCOMBERS
A
beach monitoring study, utilizing volunteers to sample selected sections
of beach for stranded marine birds and mammals.
Monterey
Bay Sanctuary Citizen Watershed Monitoring Network
A consortium of
approximately twenty volunteer citizen groups who monitor the health
of watersheds flowing into sanctuary.
Urban
Watch
Volunteers collect urban runoff water samples during the dry
weather months from selected storm drains and analyze for contaminants.
MERITO
(Multicultural Education for Resource Issues Threatening Oceans)
A
program for diverse citizens to increase their understanding of ocean-related
threats so they can actively contribute to ocean preservation.

Bay
Watershed Education and Training Program (B-WET)
A grant program providing funding
for environmental education for students, teachers, and communities
throughout the Monterey Bay watershed.
