The Federal Reclamation Program Division (FRPD) is responsible for supporting implementation of state and tribal AML programs.  FRPD staff:

The program addresses environmental and public safety hazards that arise from coal mining that occurred prior to May 3, 1977 (the passage of SMCRA). These AML problem types range from landslides, mine subsidence, refuse fires, mine fires, rockfalls, dangerous highwalls and mine openings, mine drainage issues and mine blowouts. FRPD also administers high priority AML projects in Georgia, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, and Rhode Island. FRPD is also charged with contracting support for all of OSM and property management services (including fleet management) for the Appalachian Regional Office (ARO).
