Scheduling an Appointment

Please note: You cannot make an appointment over the phone or by emailing the Consular Section.  You must make your appointment online. To make the appointment, click here.  When the link opens, scroll to the bottom of the screen. Click on “Schedule Appointment.”

Please plan ahead when scheduling your appointment.  In many cases, administrative processing requirements can take eight to twelve weeks from the time of interview. Travelers should plan accordingly and are advised to apply at least three months prior to their intended date of travel.  Students who are unable to schedule a timely appointment are welcome to send an email to KabulNIV@State.gov

All applicants must schedule their interview appointment online.

IMPORTANT NOTE!

Effective December 1st, 2011, to better serve our clients who live in Afghanistan, the following rules will apply:

Only Afghan citizens and any other applicants who reside in Afghanistan (as shown by an Afghan passport or valid residence visa) may use any open appointment.   However, anyone who does not live in Afghanistan can book appointments in emergency circumstances only and these will be reviewed in a case by case basis.  Please contact KabulNIV@state.gov if you have an emergency.

Appointments made using fictitious information will be deleted.

Appointments that do not follow this policy will be deleted and the applicant will be turned away.  Please make sure to follow the above policy carefully.

Every question on the DS-160 form must have a full and complete answer.  Applicants whose DS-160 application form is not filled out completely and accurately will not be accepted, they will not be interviewed, and they will have to schedule a new appointment on a different date.  Please be sure that you save the DS-160 application to your computer when you first open it and note the Application ID number in case you need to re-open the application later.

Please make sure to follow the above policy carefully.

Appointments that do not follow this policy will be deleted and the applicant will be turned away without being interviewed.
