Pol-Mil Section

Embassy Kabul boasts a large stand-alone Political-Military section. This 20-person team coordinates security policy and selected operational issues with the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and U.S. Forces-Afghanistan (USFOR-A), and with the civilian and military leadership of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. The Section serves as a bridge to the U.S. military, ISAF and the Afghan Government on such issues as training and equipping of Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF), detainee affairs, reintegration of insurgent fighters into society, transition to Afghan security lead, weapons abatement, humanitarian demining and civil-military strategic planning and assessments. The Section is staffed by a diverse group of U.S. and Afghan personnel from the Foreign Service, Civil Service and Military. Pol-Mil is also proud to number among its officers a British Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) diplomat working as part of the State Department-FCO exchange program.
