TWO SQUADRONS FROM THE CONNECTICUT AIR NATIONAL GUARD TO DEPLOY TO SOUTHWEST ASIA

7/12/2011 - HARTFORD, Conn. -- Maj. Gen. Thaddeus J. Martin, the Adjutant General and Commander of the Connecticut National Guard, announces that approximately 80 Airmen from the 103rd Civil Engineer and the 103rd Security Forces Squadrons will deploy to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

A formal send-off ceremony will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2011, 3:00 p.m., in the main hangar at Bradley Air National Guard Base.

Airmen with the 103rd Civil Engineer Squadron will be part of an Expeditionary Prime Base Engineer Emergency Force (BEEF) squadron and will be performing light construction and facility repair operations including plumbing, interior electric, HVAC, power production and distribution, as well as other engineering tasks.

The 103rd Security Forces Squadron will be providing base and area security for their deployed location.

The 103rd Civil Engineer Squadron is commanded by Lt. Col. James Works of West Suffield, Conn., and the 103rd Security Forces Squadron is commanded by Capt. Andrew Nemeth of Preston, Conn.

This is the first deployment for the 103rd Civil Engineer Squadron and the third deployment for 103rd Security Forces Squadron.

Currently the Connecticut National Guard has approximately 50 Soldiers and Airmen deployed in support of the Global War on Terror.
