American Citizen Services are rendered by appointment only, booked in advance, and ONLINE!  - Book your appointment here! 

Please ensure you have all documents required for your service in advance – see http://www.travel.state.gov/ or other pages on this website for documentation requirements. Note - Emergency services are rendered anytime. For after hours services, please refer to the "Emergencies" box on the right.

REGISTRATION AT U.S. EMBASSIES OR CONSULATES

If you know you will be visiting Eritrea, you should register your information through the State Department's STEP travel registration website or visit the Embassy upon arrival. Registration will make your presence and whereabouts known in case it is necessary to contact you for an emergency. Create an account as a Long-term Traveler/Overseas Resident and you'll be able to return to the website at any time to update your permanent residence and contact information.

U.S. embassies and consulates help to locate U.S. citizens overseas when relatives or friends are concerned about their welfare or need to notify them of emergencies at home. In accordance with the Privacy Act, information on your welfare or whereabouts may not be released to inquirers without your expressed written authorization. The Department of State and U.S. embassies and consulates abroad handle more than 200,000 welfare and whereabouts inquiries a year.
