U.S. Ambassador Christopher Dell and President Atifete Jahjaga sign Bilateral Agreement

U.S. Ambassador Christopher Dell and President Atifete Jahjaga signed the first comprehensive Bilateral Agreement between Governments of the United States of America and the Republic of Kosovo. The signing took place this afternoon in the Office of the President of Kosovo in Pristina.

Signing of the Bilateral Agreement marks an important milestone in the partnership between the two Governments. While the U.S. and Kosovo have been strong partners for years, this document establishes a larger strategic vision to guide cooperation for economic and technical programming and speaks to the specific areas of our bilateral assistance agenda.  In practice, this means that we will build on our cooperation in justice programs, fostering economic development and foreign investment, protecting Kosovo’s diversity and cultural heritage, and supporting civil society engagement in community development. The United States renews its promise to stand by the government, private sector and civil society partners to achieve our shared vision for a strong, democratic, and economically vibrant Kosovo as part of the Trans-Atlantic family.  We pledge to work together to build the institutions that contribute to Kosovo’s economic development, democratic governance, and rule of law to provide a prosperous future for all of Kosovo’s diverse communities.

The Government of Kosovo has demonstrated its commitment to improving the quality of life for all citizens.  Kosovo needs pro-active leaders with a strong vision of the future, the tools to power this country forward and the assistance to realize our joint goal of a strong, multi-ethnic democracy integrated with the rest of Europe.  Today, our two countries reaffirmed our commitment to these goals and objectives.
