NUTRITION CLINIC

Medical Nutrition Therapy: According to the American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics website, “Medical Nutrition Therapy is an essential component of comprehensive health care. Individuals with a variety of conditions and illnesses can improve their health and quality of life by receiving medical nutrition therapy. During an MNT intervention, RDs counsel clients on behavioral and lifestyle changes required to impact long-term eating habits and health.”

Good nutrition is essential to optimum health.  Eating the most nutritious variety of food for your body can help to give you more energy, assist in the treatment of some medical conditions and help prevent problems such as constipation.  Professional nutrition advice can help you maintain your weight and improve your body’s ability to fight infection and recover from surgery.

The Registered Dietitian provides outpatient nutrition counseling to all active duty personnel, retirees and dependants.

Hours of Operation
By appointment three times per week.

Phone Numbers:

To make an appointment please call: 410-278-5475 or toll free 866-807-0725

At your appointment:

  1. The dietitian will complete a comprehensive nutrition assessment to determine the  nutrition diagnosis;
  2. Create a plan with goals to help the patient achieve success with their nutrition related concerns;
  3. The dietitian may monitor and evaluate the patient’s progress over time with follow-up visits.

Army Weight Control Program:

Mission:  Enhance individual Soldier readiness through the provision of healthy lifestyle choices and by providing strategic policy oversight, interpretation, and guidance to the field that enhances readiness of the total force.

A soldier is flagged for being overweight when they exceed the body fat standards. The soldier is then informed by his/her commander that he/she has been entered into the Army Weight Control Program (AWCP). The date on which the counseling occurs is the date effective date he/she is enrolled in the AWCP and flagged under the provisions of AR-600-8-2.  Prior to or shortly after his/her enrollment in the AWCP, the soldier will be provided nutrition counseling, exercise guidance and assistance in behavior modification, as appropriate, to help him/her meet the Army requirements.

The Kirk U.S. Army Health Clinic Registered Dietitian is available to meet with you to satisfy this requirement.  At the end of your nutrition counseling, a letter will be provided to the soldier as documentation of the counseling session. Appointments are available.
