The American Reading Room in Kankan was established through a partnership between the U.S. Embassy and the University of Kankan.

This library provides a wide variety of resources to the students of the university, as well as to members of the Kankan community in general.  Thanks to the strong collaboration between the Embassy and the university, the community has free access to the internet, to newspapers and magazines, as well as to a range of books in both English and French. 

The American Reading Room also offers diverse programs that serve to raise awareness on issues relating to democracy, human rights and economic development.  

Basic Program

The American Reading Room in Kankan provides the following basic services:

• A Lending Library 
• A Permanent Reference Collection  
• English Language Training
• Academic Research Assistance
• Roundtable Book Discussions

Location

The American Reading Room in Kankan is located in the compound of the Public University Julis Nyèré, in front of the Rector's office.

Hours of Operation

Mornings:
Monday through Thursday  9:00 AM to 2:00 PM
Friday 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Afternoons:
Monday through Friday 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM
