U.S. Government Statement on Sentence in Gongadze Case

We note the conviction and sentencing of Oleksiy Pukach for his role in the murder of Georgiy Gongadze, the courageous Ukrainian investigative journalist who was kidnapped in Kyiv over 12 years ago. This is a welcome development, and we hope that the Ukrainian authorities continue to pursue this case in order to bring to justice those responsible for ordering Mr. Gongadze’s abduction and murder. The U.S. Government will continue to support journalists everywhere who work to inform the public and expose corruption and injustice.
