Nonimmigrant Visas
General Information
All non-U.S. citizens require visas to enter the United States for temporary stays, except qualifying nationals of countries that participate in the Visa Waiver Program.
How to Apply
All nonimmigrant visa applicants must complete the DS-160 visa application online. Non-official travelers must also schedule an appointment for a visa interview at the Embassy. While most visas can be processed within a week, certain cases may take significantly longer. We therefore recommend that you apply for your visa well in advance of your expected departure date.
The type of visa you require will depend on your purpose of travel. There are different requirements for each visa class. Please choose the appropriate category below for complete instructions.
- Business, Tourism, or Medical Treatment
- Studying or Attending College in the U.S.
- Travel on behalf of a Government or Designated International Organization
