Non-Immigrant visa categories and qualifications

Most applicants for non-immigrant visas travel to the United States for tourism, business, study, or temporary work.  Click here for a complete list of non-immigrant visa categories and qualification requirements for each category.

Scheduling an interview

Applicants must schedule their appointments through our service provider Saimon Overseas Ltd.  This also service allows applicants to pay their application processing fee, fill out and submit required visa application forms, and schedule an interview in one visit.  All non-immigrant visa applicants are encouraged to schedule their visa interviews at least 90 days in advance of their anticipated date of travel.

Fees

The current application processing fee for U.S. non-immigrant visas varies by category.  For the full fee schedule, click here.  There are no issuance fees for Bangladesh nationals, however other nationals may need to pay issuance fees.

After your visit to the embassy

Issuances
The Consular Officer will inform you as to how and when to pick up your visa.  Generally, successful applicants receive their visa within two working days.

Administrative Processing
Some non-immigrant visa applications require additional processing.  We realize the associated visa issuance delays may disrupt your travel plans.  Nonetheless, this Embassy, like all U.S. embassies and consulates, must adjudicate visas in accordance with the provisions of the law.  In some cases, this involves extensive administrative processing.  We cannot predict when additional processing be completed.   For this reason, we strongly recommend that all applicants apply at least three months prior to intended travel.  Click here to check the status of your case.

Refusals
Most refused non-immigrant visa applicants have failed to establish an intent to return to their home country.  Applicants are welcome to re-apply at any time, but are encouraged to wait until their circumstances have changed.  A new application form and fee will be required in order to schedule a new interview.

Some applicants may be found permanently or temporarily ineligible to enter the United States.  In this case, specific information will be provided to you by the interviewing officer about the terms of your ineligibility.

Some applicants require further documentation before a final decision can be made.  If documents are requested, you may submit these documents on any Sunday from 2pm-3pm.

Emergency travel

Unplanned and urgent travel resulting from medical emergencies, hospitalization, and funerals may qualify for an expedited interview appointment. Click here to learn more about expedited appointments for emergency travel.
