Notarial Services and Judicial Assistance

We can provide most of the same notarial services that a notary public is authorized by law to perform within the United States.  Services are available to U.S. citizens and to foreign nationals with documents intended for use within the U.S.

Please bring the following to the ACS Unit when requesting notary services:

  • The documents to be notarized, including attachments, if any.
  • Your passport and one other photo identification.
  • Witnesses, if required.  (Consular staff are not allowed to serve as witnesses.)
  • $50.00 or the equivalent in Malaysian ringgit for each seal. Notary fees can be paid in cash or by credit card.

All blank spaces (other than signatures) must be adequately filled in before the document can be notarized.  We have blank affidavit and acknowledgement forms available for your use, but cannot provide any advice on wording any document or completing any forms.

Be advised that we cannot certify any civil documents (e.g., birth, marriage and death certificates) or any documents issued by government authorities in Malaysia or the U.S. (e.g., drivers licenses) except through authentication, which is a complicated and time-consuming process.  We also cannot certify any educational documents, e.g., diplomas and transcripts.

Further information on notarial and authentication services is available at http://travel.state.gov/law/judicial/judicial_701.html.  For further information on authenticating educational documents, see http://travel.state.gov/law/judicial/judicial_5188.html.

Judicial Assistance

Information on obtaining evidence and service of process in Malaysia is available here.  General information on judicial assistance matters is available here.

We encourage lawyers and others needing assistance in these matters to contact us at KLACS@state.gov.  These services can take significant time, and you should plan accordingly.
