MESSAGES FOR US CITIZENS

Enroll with the U.S. Embassy and Consulate

Enroll!! Americans living and traveling in Indonesia are urged to enroll and update their contact information with the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, U.S. Consulate General in Surabaya, U.S. Consulate Medan or U.S. Consular Agency in Bali.

This is the only way we have to contact you in emergency situations, and registration may be done on the internet and in advance of travel.

SMS Alert Network

The U.S. Consulate strongly recommends that everyone who has registered with us also sign up for the SMS Alert Messages. SMS messages are sent out only when we need to relay critical and important information to our American registrants.

* * Please note that if you were previously registered, before November 2011, you will need to re-register your phone number.

Can the U.S. Consulate sign you up for the SMS Alerts?

Short Message Service (SMS) alerts are customized to your personal cell phones and can only be initiated by the cell phone owner.  You will be charged Rp2,200 per SMS message by the cell phone service provider for each message sent to you by the Embassy.

How to Sign Up:

To sign up for this service, you must compose an SMS on your Indonesian cell phone using the following format, and send it to phone number 9388:

REG<space>ALRT<space>LASTNAME#FIRSTNAME

Sample : REG ALRT BROWN#JOHN

After registering for the service, each subscriber will receive a SMS message confirming their registration with the system. Note that if you are using a Telkomsel number, you will need to confirm your registration by replying ‘YA’ to two confirmation text messages.
