Turkmen Accounting Specialists Study in London

Ashgabat, November 30, 2012 – The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) assisted the Ministry of Finance of Turkmenistan in arranging a study tour for a group of Turkmen accounting experts to London, UK from November 19–24, 2012, with the goal of further promoting the Turkmen Government’s accounting system reform. The delegation included Ministry of Finance officials responsible for regulating the accounting system of Turkmenistan, as well as the chief accountants of ministries, state organizations and enterprises, and private, small, and medium businesses. USAID provided support in developing the study tour program and facilitating meetings with international accounting bodies, businesses, and organizations.

The study tour provided an overview of the International Financial Reporting Standards Foundation’s (IFRS) activities and UK Professional Accounting Body practices, and also demonstrated the experiences of state agencies and companies that have adopted IFRS. The tour helped the Turkmen specialists to better understand accounting standards processes and how to apply this knowledge to accounting policy in Turkmenistan.

This training is one of the many programs made possible by the American people through USAID in Turkmenistan. Since 1992, USAID has worked with the government of Turkmenistan to help deliver programs that support Turkmenistan’s economic growth, social sector, and community initiatives.
