Passports

Passports – The Consular sections in Cape Town, Durban, and Johannesburg all process United States passport applications. Currently the processing time for most passports is seven to ten business days.

Applicants under 16 years of age must appear in person at the Consulate with both parents.

Minor applicants who may have changed drastically in physical appearance are advised to bring photos showing the child in the years since the previous passport.

For the required forms you may follow the links provided at Bureau of Consular Affairs:  http://travel.state.gov/passport

Note:  Effective July 13, 2010, in addition to the change in passport fees, a new charge of $82.00 for additional visa pages took effect.  In situations where applicants may apply by mail, please see the attached info sheet (link on top right of this page) regarding payment methods and the fact that the US government must use the US Consulate exchange rate in effect on the date that the bank draft check was received and processed, not on the date that it was drawn.
