Matthew (Mateo) Banegas

Matthew (Mateo) Banegas, PhD, MPH, MS is a Cancer Prevention Fellow in the Health Services and Economics Branch of ARP. Dr. Banegas recently completed his doctoral work, entitled "Prediction, Communication, and Distribution of Breast Cancer Risk," from the Department of Health Services at the University of Washington, School of Public Health in Seattle. His research interests include health services utilization and delivery in underserved populations, as well as cultural and socioeconomic factors related to the provision of cancer care. For the past several years, his research has focused on racial/ethnic disparities in cancer, with particular emphasis on breast and cervical cancer among Hispanic women. Dr. Banegas received his MPH. in Community Health Education, during which his thesis work focused on breast cancer early detection practices, knowledge and perceptions of risk among US Hispanic and Mexican women along the US-Mexico border. He has a MS in Agronomy (Medicinal Chemistry) and a BS in Biology from New Mexico State University.
