During USAID 50th anniversary year, staff at missions around the world continue their work improving local communities, promoting economic prosperity, and fostering opportunity. Many missions are marking this historic milestone by hosting unique events and activities with the local communities. This provides a moment to reflect on the longstanding partnerships USAID has maintained with countries around the world.
Liberia
November 4
USAID-Liberia will sponsor an exhibit at the Mission Director’s residence featuring a timeline of USAID, with special emphasis on USAID’s work in Liberia .
Ecuador
November 17
USAID-Ecuador will host a reception for 500 people with a photo display honoring USAID’s 50th anniversary.

USAID-Mongolia celebrates the past and looks to the future
On June 2, USAID-Mongolia hosted an event to mark 20 years of partnership between Mongolia and USAID. The event celebrated the country’s democratic transition into a free market economy over the past two decades.

Ethiopia recognized USAID’s 50th anniversary by co-sponsoring the EVERY ONE half-marathon in Awassa, Ethiopia, along with Save the Children and the Great Ethiopian Run. The event sought to raise awareness about efforts to reduce maternal, newborn, and child deaths

USAID/Nepal Earth Day Hikers
To commemorate its 60th anniversary and Earth Day, USAID-Nepal teamed up with the World Wildlife Federation (WWF) to organize a trek through Nepal’s Langtang region, called the Green Hiker-Green Planet Campaign.

USAID and partners launch Saving Lives at Birth: A Grand Challenge for Development
On March 9, USAID joined the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Government of Norway, Grand Challenges Canada, and the World Bank to launch Saving Lives at Birth: A Grand Challenge for Development. The partners are calling on the brightest minds across the globe to identify and scale up transformative prevention and treatment approaches for pregnant women and newborns in rural, low-resource settings around the time of birth
