Colonel Michael R. Fenzel was commissioned an infantry officer in 1989 from the John Hopkins University. Received a Master degree in Public Administration from Harvard University, a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College, and is a PhD Candidate (ABD) in National Security Studies at the Naval Postgraduate School. Colonel Fenzel served as a rifle platoon leader, scout platoon leader and company executive officer in the 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, including service through Desert Shield and Storm. He served as a weapons platoon leader and rifle platoon leader in 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment and subsequently served as the aide-de-camp to the Deputy Commanding General of Fort Benning. He then served as a Battalion S4, Rifle Company Commander, and Headquarters and Headquarters Company Commander in Vicenza, Italy for 3/325th Airborne Battalion Combat Team which was reflagged 1st Battalion (Airborne), 508th Infantry Regiment, including service as company commander through Operation Assured Response defending the US Embassy in Liberia (1996).
Colonel Fenzel served as a strategist and policy analyst in the Department of the Army's Office of Strategy and Policy (Strategic Concepts Division), Director for Transnational Threats and Director for Combating Terrorism at the National Security Council (NSC) on the White House staff (2000-01). Brigade S4 for the 173rd Airborne Brigade and then Executive Officer for 2nd Battalion (Airborne), 503rd Infantry Regiment through Operation Iraqi Freedom I (2003-04). Deputy G3 for the Southern European Task Force and Deputy J3 for Combined Joint Task Force76 for Operation Enduring Freedom (2004-05). Deputy Brigade Commander for 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division in Afghanistan (2005-06). He was the Battalion Commander for the 173rd Airborne Brigade's 1st Battalion (Airborne), 503rd Infantry Regiment, including Operation Enduring Freedom VIII-IX (2006-08). Most recently he commanded the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division (2010) until its attachment to TRADOC.
Colonel Fenzel's awards and decorations include the Bronze Star with V-device, Bronze Star (3awards), Defense Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards), Meritorious Service Medal (4 awards), Army Commendation Medal with V-device, Army Commendation Medal (5 awards), Master Parachutist Badge with Combat Jump Star, Combat Infantryman's Badge (2nd award), Ranger Tab, Expert Infantryman's Badge, Douglas MacArthur leadership award, Presidential Service Badge, and White House Fellowship.
Colonel Fenzel is married to the former Lisa Campeau of Montreal, Quebec. They have 4 children, Marcus (6), Christopher (4), Sara (2), and Ellie (1).
Command Sergeant Major Nicholas A. Rolling enlisted in the United States Army in 1987. He received his Basic and Advance Individual Training at Fort Jackson, S.C. and RIP Ranger indoctrination. During his 20 years of service, Command Sergeant Major Roling has held numerous leadership positions in 1st and 2nd Ranger Battalion to include; Ranger Rifleman, Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, First Sergeant and Operations Sergeant of the 75th Ranger Regiment Headquarters. His previous assignment was with the 2nd 503rd, 173rd Airborne Brigade in Italy, where he activated three Companies: B Company (Battle), Headquarters and Headquarters Company (Black sheep), and C Company (Chosen). Recently serving as the Command Sergeant Major for 3-325th AIR and 2-508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division from May 2005 to July 2008. Brigade Command Sergeant Major 173rd Airborne Brigade from Oct. 2008 to Jan. 2012. Brigade Command Sergeant Major 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division from Feb. 2012 to present.
Throughout his career, Command Sergeant Major Rolling has pursued military education and training. He has attained a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and Minor in Political Science from Excelsior University. He completed Basic Airborne School, Belgian Commando School in Marche Les Dames, Belgium, Ranger School (Honor graduate), Mountain Warfare School in Vermont, and Special Operations Master Mountaineering School in Colorado, S.E.R.E, and Jumpmaster School. Command Sergeant Major Rolling is a graduate of the United States Army Sergeant Major's Academy (Class #55). He is also a graduate of the First Sergeant Course, Fort Bliss, Texas.
