Many questions can be answered by contacting the Processing Office at 725-4965 or 763-1080. Most information can be found in the DoD Mobilization and Demobilization Guides listed above. Listed below are some of the most frequently asked questions about the DPC and RSU:

A: While you are here at DPC you will be going through a mobilization process to prepare you for active duty. The main goal of this process is to properly screen for military service, train and then send you to your gaining force command for service. Mobilization Process
A: Billeting is provided at Camp Talega while you are going through the mobilization process. All Marines while processing are authorized to use the chow hall at 62 area, which is just a few minutes away from DPC. Transportation is provided to all Marines for use of the 62 Area mess hall.
A: The mobilization process usually takes between 5-6 working days. The first day that you arrive for duty is a forming day, which may not be included in the 5-6 day period. It is important to note that there are many factors that could make this process quicker or longer depending on the individual Marine's situation.

A: Currently, under this partial mobilization, orders will be issued for 12 consecutive months. The Secretary of the Navy can authorize HQMC to extend Partial Mobilization orders up to, but not more than 24 consecutive months involuntarily.

A: No. You will be given refresher training as required.
A: At the Deployment Processing Command, you will complete NAVMC 10772 necessary to ensure your spouse and/or family members are eligible for a dependent ID card, medical benefits and Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH). A: Processing normally takes seven to ten working days depending on your specific situation. The process may be shorter or longer depending if you have any unanticipated problems. DeMobilization Process Some of the demobilizing requirements issues that you will be completing include:

  1. An orders/SRB/Pay/Travel/Gear audit
  2. attending required briefs/classes
  3. obtaining medical / dental clearances
  4. receiving an updated ID card if your EAS has changed since original issue.
A: During working hours: (760) 763-4965, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Camp Talega Duty NCO is (760) 725-7995 after 4:30 p.m. and weekends.
A: Once assigned to Staging Section, you will be assigned billeting at Camp Talega. You will be expected to remain there until you depart for your Home of Record. There will be daily inspections of the barracks, as you are required to keep your area clean and personal property secured.
A: At 6 a.m. each morning, breakfast will be offered at the 62 Area chow hall. You will meet in the lower parking lot, (just down from the 64 Area PX), for transportation. Throughout each demobilization day, your troop handler will instruct you as to when you will need to report to this same location for lunch and dinner meals.
A: Yes. They will be eligible for Reserve Dependent ID cards until the end of your Reserve contract is up (RECC). If this is the case, your family member may then go to DEERS/RAPIDS SIte Locator to locate a military installation or reserve center to obtain their ID card.
A: While you are demobilizing and in possession of an Active Duty ID card, you can still utilize commissary and exchange privileges. Once demobilized, according to MARADMIN 572/03 EXPANSION OF COMMISSARY BENEFITS FOR RESERVISTS, your Commissary / Exchange privileges will continue as long as you remain on contract in the SMCR or IRR.

A: Leave should be taken at the GFC (if possible) or as terminal leave after your Demobilization.

For any other leave requirements you will need to submit a request in MOL through your chain of command. You will check out on to leave via DPC DNCO.

A: Upon demobilization you will complete a travel claim with all orders, endorsements and receipts from your entire mobilization period. Any missing documents will cause a significant delay in processing your claim. You will travel home and when you reach your final destination you will contact the DPC Separations (760-763-3636) to confirm final submission of the claim. You should receive a final settlement in approximately 30 working days.
A: The travel pay section of the CPAC (760) 763-3636. At no time should you attempt to contact the travel section of the finance office. Your travel/ pay clerk will make any necessary contacts to the finance office.
A: You are expected to return to your home of record in the same mode of travel as where you did when you were mobilized. If during your time on active duty you made a vehicle purchase or obtained your vehicle, and would like to drive it to your home of record, you may. However, you will only be compensated for the same travel time and cost of transportation as if you were taking the appropriate Government transportation (GTR).
A: Following release from active duty, your benefits will stay in effect based upon your individual entitlements. These benefits are outlined in paragraph 10 of MARADMIN 257/03. You can pull this up on line at www.usmc.mil under publications.

A: Yes. You and your family members are eligible for TRICARE benefits if you were mobilized for 30 days or more. You can access the information in these MARADMINs or the links below:

Under new legislation, you may also qualify to continue TRICARE benefits for an annual or monthly premium. TRICARE Reserve Select (TRS)

You will automatically be eligible for benefits after your EAS for up to 180 days.

A: Yes. You can continue your life insurance after demobilization by transferring from SGLI to VGLI. There is a subsequent cost in this and you can receive information and or the transfer of this through your separations clerk located in the DPC CPAC.
A: Depending on the length of your mobilized service will determine when you must return to your employer by law. See the ESGR FAQ.
A: U.S. service members are eligible for benefits if discharged under honorable conditions. Check the Veterans Benefits Administration web site for detailed information.
A: Reserve contract obligation is eight years. Your active duty time will count towards your reserve obligation. When you receive your reserve ID card upon demobilization it will show your reserve ECC.

A: You may request extension on or based on the needs of the Marine Corps.

A: Yes. Based on the needs and requirements of the Marine Corps.
A: Legal support assistance is provided through the base legal office. Individuals needing or requesting legal assistance in the preparation of wills, powers of attorney or other legal documents will be directed to the base legal office. Depending on processing requirements, legal assistance may be provided at the DPC. During transition, you may seek legal assistance at a base or station near your home. A: Unfortunately, no. The military still faces very real security and "firewall" issues that currently prevent private electronic access and altering of record books. You may access limited information from your record book at at Marine Online.

Q: Who should I contact with promotion and career development questions?

A: Enlisted Marines should start with their career planners at their duty station, ask during your demob briefings or you may contact an IRR Career Planner at MOBCOM at 1-800-255-5082 ext 3376.

Additionally you might contact Reserve Affairs Career Management Team at HQMC.

A: Approval for reenlistment in the reserve depends on your meeting the reenlistment criteria (years of service, date of rank, etc.)

You may have the opportunity to speak with a Career Planner during demobilization; however, you will have to submit a reenlistment package through the MOBCOM Career Retention Specialists.

Q: How can I contribute to the Montgomery GI Bill "kicker"?

A: The education officer at DPC is responsible for processing this request. Only an active duty marine who is already eligible for chapter 30 and entered the Marine Corps after June 30, 1985 is eligible to receive this benefit. Eligible marines can contribute in increments of $20 up to $600. A contribution of $600 would increase your monthly benefits by $150.
