1/21/2011 - Kirtland Air Force Base, NM -- Kirtland Air Force Base will recognize the accomplishments of four chief master sergeant-selects, including the Air Force Inspection Agency's David Gurley, Jan. 28 at the Mountain View Club in a ceremony to honor these outstanding individuals who have managed to reach the top one percent of the enlisted Air Force.

"Our new chiefs will be responsible to lead Airmen, mentor and guide them through some of the most challenging and demanding times our Air Force has ever seen. This role is not subordinate to their assigned job -- it is a vital part of what every chief does to make our Air Force the best in the world," said Chief Master Sgt. Daniel Maucieri, president, Kirtland Chiefs Group. Not every enlisted member will make chief -- only one of every hundred Airmen are promoted to this rank.

Being promoted to chief master sergeant in the United States Air Force is the pinnacle of an enlisted Airman's career. These promotees join an exclusive group that includes Air Force legends such as Chief Master Sergeants Paul Airey, Richard Etchberger and Grace Peterson. Air Force "Chiefs" may be experts in their individual career fields, but their primary focus is on the Airmen, NCOs and Senior NCOs who look to them for guidance on matters professional and personal.

Promotion to chief master sergeant is extremely competitive. During the last promotion cycle, 22 percent of eligible senior master sergeants were selected.

Considering how difficult it is to make senior master sergeant, selectees have proven that they are the "best of the best."

The Chief's Group invites you to celebrate the promotion of Kirtland's chief master sergeant-selects and to help them as they lead our enlisted Airmen for years to come.
