Diplomatic and Official Visas

The Consulate will accept applications for offical and diplomatic A and G visas any business day between 2:00 and 3:00 pm. The applications may be submitted by courier; a personal appearance is not required (except for applicants for A-3 and G-5 visas). There are NO visa fees for A and G visa applications, and fingerscanning is also not required (except for applicants for A-3 and G-5 visas).

Travelers conducting diplomatic or official business are not eligible for Visa Waiver Program travel.

Documentation

Applicants should submit the following documentation:

For each applicant:

• A passport, which may be diplomatic, official or regular. Please attach the last passport containing the most recent diplomatic or official visa, if applicable.
• All applicants for diplomatic and official visas are required to complete the Non-Immigrant Visa Application Form. Please ensure you select the correct visa category for your proposed travel under the section “Travel Information” of the DS-160 when asked for the purpose of trip.  The DS-160 application questions change based on your purpose of travel. Official business trips on behalf of foreign governments or international organizations are A and G visas, subcategories of the choice “other” in the drop-down menu.
• One photograph (please see photo instructions).
• Either a memorandum from the Austrian ministry or a Diplomatic Note from the foreign mission describing the applicant's assignment in the U.S. For G-4 applicants, a request from Chief Transportation Section of UN Secretariat (or an official letter from other designated international organizations) is required.

Most visas will be processed within two days, but some nationalities may require additional processing time. We cannot estimate in advance how long the additional processing time may be.
