The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Tajikistan works to foster mutual understanding between the United States and Tajikistan through international educational and training exchange programs. The relationships formed among the participants lead to personal, professional, and institutional ties between private citizens and organizations in the United States and abroad.

Tajik students and professionals can apply for several exchange programs sponsored by the U.S. Government, administered through American Councils (ACCELS) and IREX (the International Research and Exchanges Board).

In addition, there are Educational Advising Centers located in both Dushanbe and Khujand, operated by American Councils.  Education advisors can help you search for educational opportunities in the United States, as well as scholarship and financial support information.  Please contact American Councils in Dushanbe for more information.

The Fulbright Research Scholarship Program provides Tajikistani academics with support for one or two academic semesters of research in the United States. For additional information, please visit http://www.cies.org/about_fulb.htm.

The Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) provides an opportunity for high school students from the countries of the former Soviet Union to experience life in American society in order to promote democratic values and institutions in Eurasia. The Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (UGRAD) allows university students to spend one year of non-degree undergraduate study in the United States in the fields of accounting, agriculture, American studies, business, computer science, criminal justice, economics, education, environmental management, hospitality management, international relations, journalism and mass communication, law, political science, psychology, and sociology. The Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program, funded by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, is aimed at strengthening foreign language instruction at U.S. colleges and universities, and some high schools while providing future foreign teachers of English with the opportunity to refine their skills, increase their English language proficiency and extend their knowledge of U.S. society and culture.  FLTA fellows spend nine months serving as teaching assistants at U.S. educational institutions while also taking courses in English language teaching and U.S. studies as non-degree students. For more information, please click on FLTA. 

The Eurasia/South Asia Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (TEA) provides secondary school teachers with unique opportunities to develop expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teaching skills, and increase their knowledge about the United States. 

The Junior Faculty Development Program (JFDP) provides university instructors with a semester-long opportunity to expand their knowledge and expertise in their academic field by attending classes and working with faculty members at universities in the United States.
