Public Affairs

Welcome to Public Affairs

The Public Affairs Section (PAS) is the office which is primarily responsible for the public diplomacy efforts of the U.S. Embassy in Brazzaville.  These efforts fall into two main areas, cultural and information affairs.

The Information and Resource Center (IRC) is open 5 days a week and offers a variety of free resources for independent study and research including books, periodicals and computers with internet. The IRC also offers educational advising sessions by appointment and information on study abroad.

The Villa Washington Lecture Series on Thursday nights offers an opportunity for those interested in learning English to listen to talks presented by English speakers. Participants are given the opportunity to ask questions at the end of each presentation.

U.S. Embassy-Brazzaville also offers English Classes on Saturdays at our Villa Washington facility. The classes are run predominately by volunteers who teach up to 300 students a week. For students that have completed the English Language Program, PAS now has an Alumni Coordinator who will be organizing events and programs.

Finally, the Public Affairs Section of Embassy Brazzaville runs a number of successful outreach programs and activities. During 2010, the PD section sponsored cultural envoy workshops on “Theater of the Oppressed,” organized an Earth day community cleanup, organized a Girls’ Soccer tournament for 160 female youth, held an international Women’s Day event, hosted a Black History Month Speaker, and organized concerts for a visiting Bluegrass band, among other events. Articles and photos from these kinds of events can be found on the Embassy News page.
