The Information Department is a coordinator of all Missions' public matters with both the International and local press. It deals in organizing press conferences / press briefings for the Ambassador, assists international Journalists who come to Tanzania to get accreditation from the government and handles press photographers.The section is fully involved in coordinating the press when top U.S. Government officials visit Tanzania.

Internally we help the Tanzanian public to get information on America by distributing pamphlets like economic reform, brochures, newsletters like the VOA Guide and answer letters from the public whenever necessary. Also it prepares press releases for the mission for local distribution to the local media in the country.

The section handles the State.gov which provides United States Government official texts, policy statements, interpretive materials, features and byline articles prepared daily by the State Department's International Information Programs for distribution to the local media, selected individuals, government ministries and NGOs.

Daily the section reviews print and electronic media for coverage of issues relevant to U.S. - Tanzanian relations, including placement of post information materials. Drafts media reaction and Washington File placement reports for submission to the Public Diplomacy elements in Washington including translation of editorial commentary from Kiswahili to English as required.

The section provides audio-visual support for all post activities, including operation and maintenance of post's TVRO, recording and audio and video materials, and operation of video equipment for programming both in and outside the Public Affairs Section.

Responds to requests for information, from both within and outside the Mission, concerning general information, policy issues or post publications. Searches for appropriate information, requesting policy guidance from Washington as necessary, and drafting responses. Provides support to American journalists and film makers working in the country and facilitates their contacts with appropriate Tanzanian government officials.

The section maintains contacts with Tanzanian information and media leaders from cabinet-minister level down, in order to service their information needs about the united States and the U.S. government policies. Keeps abreast of current U.S. policies and local media attitudes towards issues affecting U.S. - Tanzania relations.
