Non-immigrant visas (NIV)
General Information
Non-immigrant visas (NIVs) are issued to people visiting the United States for work, pleasure, studying, or transit. Generally, visa applicants must apply for a visa in the consular district in which they legally reside. At the consulate in Hamilton, applications are normally only accepted from legal residents of Bermuda.
Visas are a privilege, not a right. In order to be granted a non-immigrant visa, applicants must overcome the presumption in Section 214b of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) that all visa applicants are intending immigrants. You can overcome this presumption by providing evidence that you have strong ties to a residence abroad that you have no intention of abandoning. For more information about Section 214b and visa denials please visit http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/denials/denials_1361.html.
Service Hours
Non-immigrant visa applicants are by appointment only.
