Ugandans attend Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship in Washington, D.C.

From April 26-26, 2010 entrepreneurs from over 50 countries attended the U.S. Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship in Washington, D.C., at the invitation of U.S. President Barack Obama.

One of the goals of the summit was to celebrate the life of entrepreneurship and share ideas about sparking new businesses in their communities. Rehmah Kasule, owner and Managing Director of Century Marketing and Faridah Nambi Kigongo, founder and managing director of Nambi Children Initiatives and Nambi Talkshow represented Uganda.

On her return, Ms. Kasule reported that “From all the discussions, one key thing that remained clear is that, in order to bring a paradigm shift in our communities, we must first deal with revamping of the education sector which has remained stagnant in many parts of the world.” Participants at the summit agreed to bring about change by developing entrepreneurship programs in schools, and encouraging youth to become entrepreneurs, providing support to women and youth in business, lobbying  governments to provide laws, policies and systems which support entrepreneurship growth, and provision of financing for small and medium entrepreneurs.
