Ambassador Hawkins with University of Kara students

More than 3,500 students in Northern Togo learn about Civic Education

On December 6-8, 2010 Public Diplomacy staff made outreach visits to Sokode and Bassar and the University of Kara. They spoke about democracy, citizen's responsibilities, voting rights and good governance. The highlight of the outreach was Ambassador Hawkins presentation at the University of Kara where 3,000 students gathered on December 8, 2010 for a presentation on Civic Education. This tour continues the objective of targeting young Togolese leaders with the necessary skills to take responsibilities and play significant roles in the country's transition to full democracy. Another tour will soon take the team to Western and Eastern Togo to discuss subjects related to Leadership and Civic Education.
