U.S. Government Resources

  • Export.gov: Brings together resources from across the U.S. Government to assist American businesses in planning their international sales strategies and succeed in today’s global marketplace. Export.gov also hosts information on the National Export Initiative.
  • BuyUSA.gov: Works to help import, represent, and distribute American goods in Guatemala by providing a strong network for America businesses to build upon. This site links companies with potential American buyers as well as Guatemalan buyers by providing an online database of available services as well as information on upcoming local product fairs.   • American Chamber of Commerce in Guatemala (AmCham Guatemala): Creates a network of contacts across Latin America as well as Guatemalan government officials in an effort to encourage trade between the United States and Guatemala. This interactive site provides information about office training programs, major international trade treaties, and opportunities in the Guatemalan market as well as blogs and boards to post specific needs or helpful feedback on American markets.
  • Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR): Provides information about CAFTA-DR, the major trade treaty that the United States has with the Central American countries. The link provides information about the import and export markets as well as recent news about countries’ compliance.
  • Overseas Private Investment Corporation: Offers overviews as well as detailed information on financing schemes, investment insurance plans and a variety of worldwide investment funds.
  • Small Business Administration’s Office of International Trade: The Small Business Administration works to encourage small business exports and to assist small businesses seeking to export. The site offers resources instructing businesses on how to export and grow in addition to trade links and a calendar of export events.
  • U.S. Trade and Development Agency: The agency works to advance economic development and promote American commercial interests abroad by funding technical assistance, early investment analysis, reverse trade missions, and business workshops. The site offers specific information about what the agency is doing in Guatemala as well as a list of business opportunities broken down by country.

Guatemalan Resources

  • Superintendencia de Administración Tributaria (SAT): Provides basic information on the SAT, which is responsible for administration of the national tax system. The site provides helpful information about customs and tax processes including how and where to pay them and other assistance.
  • Guatecompras: Provides information on the government procurement process in Guatemala. The site also includes existing opportunities for providers.
  • Camara de Industria de Guatemala (Guatemalan Industrial Chamber): Is an association that works to promote industry in Guatemala while maintaining a standard of excellence within the market. The site also maintains a library of news items and downloads that provide insight into the Guatemalan market.
  • Camara Guatemalteca de la Construccion (Guatemalan Construction Chamber): This organization works to promote the importance of construction in the Guatemalan economy. Upon joining the group, the site provides market indicators about both the economy and the construction industry in addition to a variety of publications about the Chamber, its unions, and the overarching regional construction chamber.
  • Invest in Guatemala: Provides necessary services including visa processing, descriptions of the banking and finance process, and information on investment procedures and on how to establish a business. The site also describes current investment opportunities by sector; providing growth charts and detailed analysis about specific regions within Guatemala.
  • Ministerio de Economia (Ministry of Economy): Offers information about basic Guatemalan laws on imports and exports and helpful links about investment and expectations of foreign companies in Guatemala.
