Udall Announces Additional Preventive Health Services for Women through Affordable Care Act
Mark Udall announced today that starting in August, provisions in the Affordable Care Act - enacted in March 2010 - will require that insurance companies provide coverage for and eliminate cost-sharing on common preventive health services specific for women.
"As a result of the Affordable Care Act, upwards of 352,000 Coloradan women will no longer have to worry about choosing between paying for basic preventive health care and other necessities, like groceries or their utility bills," Udall said. "This provision of the Affordable Care Act will provide our mothers, daughters and sisters with better, more affordable access to basic health services - and not to mention much-needed peace of mind. This is just the latest example of how the president's health care law gives Colorado families the tools they need to stay healthy."
This latest provision will cover contraception, well-woman visits, screening for gestational diabetes, HPV testing, STI counseling, screening and counseling for HIV, breastfeeding support and supplies, and domestic violence screening and counseling.
